Thank you all for your replies, I'm very glad you are willing to help us!
Quick messaging and discussions (optional, but recommended)
We are using Matrix for beta testing chatting and quick discussions. It is on invitation only. To join the room, please send an email to Dasharo with the following information:
- Your Matrix username
- The device name(s) you are willing to test. For example: NS51 (12th Gen)
How to apply the beta firmware version?
- Format a USB pen drive as FAT(32).
* WARNING: All data will be erased when formatting a storage drive!
- Put the firmware binaries on it, which you can download here (files are in the zip archive):
Dasharo v1.5.2-rc1 (11th Gen) and v1.7.2-rc1 (12th Gen)
The firmware files (called binaries) can be found under artifacts
. You must be logged in with a Github account before you can download these binaries.
Please note that tgl
stands for 11th generation Intel Core and adl
stands for 12th generation Intel Core.
- Make sure that the firmware binary files are called
coreboot.rom
and ec.rom
respectively.
- Boot to the Dasharo Tools Suite (DTS) according to the manual update instructions.
- In the main menu of DTS, drop to a shell (option 9) and mount the USB pen drive with the following commands:
mkdir /mnt/usb
mnt /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb
- If the command above doesn't work, please try
sdb1
, sdc1
, and so on.
- Check if the firmware binary files are at the correct place:
ls /mnt/usb/*.rom
- This command should return the two firmware binary files.
- Apply the firmware binaries with the following command:
dasharo_ectool info && flashrom -p internal --ifd -i bios -w /mnt/usb/coreboot.rom && dasharo_ectool flash /mnt/usb/ec.rom
If the command above returns an error, you might need to use the old name for the Dasharo EC tool, which is System76's EC tool:
system76_ectool info && flashrom -p internal --ifd -i bios -w /mnt/usb/coreboot.rom && system76_ectool flash /mnt/usb/ec.rom
- After a successful flash, the laptop powers off and you can start testing.
Please note that:
- You might need to press the power button several times until the laptop powers on.
- The UEFI firmware settings are overwritten. This also affects your boot order.
What can I test?
There are a few test approaches:
- Copy the NovaCustom-Dasharo Test Sheet and replace the name
3mdeb
for your name, then delete all content you don't need and start testing 😇. Share your results on this forum.
- Do random stuff; try to trigger a firmware related problem. Especially with docking stations, as they were problematic in the past sometimes, although these problems should have been solved with this beta. You can also do stress testing and suspend the laptop several times.
- Use your laptop normally, and pay attention to the firmware related events:
- Booting
- Rebooting
- Shutting down
- Suspending
- Hibernation
- I/O ports, including docking stations and USB Power Delivery (PD)
- Energy consumption
- System performance
- Battery charge system
- Keyboard
- Touchpad
- Screen display
- UEFI firmware settings and configuration
How can I report an issue?
Please report your issue here.
I don't really have an issue, but rather an enhancement.
You can also submit a feature request.
For any questions, you can always use this forum thread of course 😉.
